Belly good stay
Mi wan start wid di best tings bout dis hostel, an go tru tings dat no di hostel control.
1) Location good. It’s 'bout 15 min walk from Fortitude Valley, di city area of Brisbane. It’s also 'bout 3 min from di "Central" train station.
2) Di staff, like all Australians, very friendly.
3) Di pods dem clean. Bedsheets clean, pillow cases, walls cleaned out. Di showers renovated an very good. It’s a hostel, so plenty people use it all day. Downstairs, di showers work well. Dem got maintenance staff to fix tings if lightbulb no work.
4) Di counter open 24/7. One staff member dey watch who come in di hostel after 10pm. You need card key to enter. Remember your room.
5) Dem got lockers downstairs. You need your own padlock. I suggest bring one from home. You can lock your tings. But I no think anyone go steal your stuff if you leave it in di bedrooms - di room I stay had 8 pods. At first, it was like 10 or so.
6) Let’s talk 'bout one situation. In L2G, di basement, if you get dat room in August 2025, you should ask for room change. One fella (older, tattooed, big guy) snore loud. I reach di hostel 'round 3pm an he was snoring from den, even 5pm, an later at 10pm, all di way to 8am when he wake up for di free breakfast. I ask for room change at 5pm an di staff was nice enough to tell me to check out at 11am di next day an a new BETTER room would be given. It was a tough night 'cause he snored all night. He is a long term stay guy. I no think anyone could survive dat.
7) Di next day, I get a new room. Di people in dat room was Chinese/Korean, an one nice French woman who spoke plenty French. She was told to quiet down at 10pm when lights off an people encouraged to stay quiet for everyone. Room 201 very nice. Di setup modern. Room L2G was older an had more long term stay people. Ask for change if you in dat room, IMO.
8) You can charge your stuff before di pods. You NEED Australia converter plug. Buy it off AliExpress before you come 'cause it go cost more in Australia. I also change cash in my home country 'cause di rates better than airports an stores.
9) Breakfast was 8am sharp to 10am. Good stuff. Dem had corn flakes, muesli, all kinds of store-bought milk, orange juice/apple juice, toast you can make, all di spread, di yogurt in a big bowl an delicious, along wid some cut mango fruit you can put on top. You can get utensils an cups/dishes. You must wash your own dishes at di sinks after, an dry dem or you go get fined. Everyone friendly. You can eat in plenty places - in a couch area, outside tables, or di lower level where dey got workout area an plenty couches. I enjoyed di vegemite toast, yogurt, juices, an cereal. Dem all high-quality store-bought food, so it’s a good way to fill up in di morning. On di last day, I bring food from a cafe - like meat pie which is an Australian specialty.
10) Showers an restroom. Dem shared. I had my shoes in di room. I suggest bring sandals too. I think di staff provide dem. Please bring your own toothbrush/toothpaste. If you no, you can pay small 7 dollar fee. Dem offer washing machines/dryers for 7 dollars, an 6 dollars to dry. Dey got touch screen. Free iron.
Di shared living room/kitchen area open at 6am, so you can get access to milk, dining area an plates/etc. It close at 10pm. If you want to use your laptop or eat somewhere, dere’s a small table beside di locker area. Some "Fire prevention" doors need to close at all times in di middle of di night.
11) Plenty young backpackers. I spoke to one French guy, British guy. Dem even.
Mi love Brisbane Quarters
Mi gotta say as I walk out di door after my stay, mi feelin was complete satisfaction, like 10/10. After stayin here for di third time over di last few years, it’s really great to still feel so good 'bout di place. I was wowed by di decor an layout di first time - from swimming pool to gym - an none of dat has diminished. Di impression I come away wid dis time was just how exceptionally well run dis place is. I was a little alarmed at first as dem change di rules an make it a little stricter in di year since I been dere. While a 10pm curfew for a place primarily frequented by travellers in dere 20's seems a little quaint an is enforced more firmly now, I had my reservations dat dis should be di case, I can’t deny dat element of discipline helps keep di place well run. BQ has never been a 'party hostel', thank god, an di kind of travellers who stay dere all tend to be well raised an respectful so I don’t know if it’d result in anarchy if di rules were eased a little but in di end, if dis is di small price to pay for havin a well run an very comfortable an pleasant 'flashpackers' den I’d prefer dat. Di kitchen an dining areas are like a train station in di mornin an it’s a testament to di first rate management of BQ dat di staff can run di very kind complimentary breakfast session smoothly. Staff are generally friendly an only too helpful. Di way you rate a place is similar to a movie in my opinion, ultimately I rate it on emotional effect an even though dere are a few small niggles - di blocked right hand sink in di men’s bathroom on di first floor still blocked after a year haha, di left hand shower only puts out lukewarm water, my mattress in pod #1 in di 18 bed pod room is sunken in di middle an could maybe do wid replacin an di paintwork on di hand rail up to my pod was chipped off, none of dese tings were enough to detract from my feelin of complete satisfaction as I left at di end of my stay. Di positives greatly outweigh dese minor negatives an di overall experience is nevertheless completely comfortable an pleasant. I nearly stayed at a hotel nearby which is more expensive than dis but in di end I decided bein around plenty people is more appealing than di relative isolation of a hotel room as a single traveller. After plenty experience of dis I feel dat such privacy can = loneliness an di feelin of community you get at a place like BQ is more valuable. Di decor an facilities are so comfortable, not havin your own room don’t matter an di pod room is really nice, quiet an comfortable. I stayed in my own room at Coolangatta YHA before here an at both places, as always it was such a pleasure to hear di accents of an mingle wid German, French, Spanish, British, Irish, Slavic, Japanese, Chinese an fellow Australian people amongst others. I’ve had some great experiences over di years at hostels an such gettin to meet an know people from all around di world an dis experience is a joy you can’t really get at hotels an one you can’t put a price on. Thank you Brisbane Quarters for another great stay!
Fun place to stay an well equipped
Breakfast was great an tings kept clean. Located walkin distance to cbd make dis a convenient location.
