Grand Astoria Hotel

The perfect staycation! From the moment I checked in, I felt completely at ease. The bed was a highlight—so comfortable that I slept like a baby both nights. If you’re looking for a place to truly unwind and get some quality rest, this is it. I left feeling completely refreshed!

My recent stay at Grand Astoria Hotel was a mixed bag of pleasant surprises and design quirks, all nestled in a location that’s both central and a little hard to love. Highlights Worth Mentioning: The room and bathroom were impressively spacious, much larger than expected, which gave us breathing room and a sense of comfort. Essential amenities were accounted for, including bathroom and toilet provisions — plus a hair dryer, a welcome surprise. The retro-style bulbs added a quirky touch that modernized the space in an unexpected way. Getting from the airport to the hotel was a breeze thanks to their seamless transfer service. Check-in and parking validation were smooth and uncomplicated — efficiency at its best. Breakfast was decent, with dishes we generally found agreeable, though a lack of variety was noticeable over multiple mornings. Areas That Fell Short: The bed headboard resembled a wall, creating a cold and impersonal feel; coupled with limited pillows and a layout where the door opens directly onto the bed, it missed the mark on comfort. The sink drained slowly, raising questions about plumbing or design oversight. TV entertainment left much to be desired — old LED screens with no smart features and grainy cable reception felt outdated in today’s standard. Though the hotel sits in the city center, the surrounding area (Astoria/Sucabon/Mayor Jaldon) isn’t pedestrian-friendly or visually appealing, making exploration less inviting. Cleanliness & Environment: Housekeeping seemed inconsistent, as we noticed used plates left in the corridors long after rooms were serviced. Our room’s proximity to function/event halls introduced unwanted noise and unexpected crowds right outside our door — something that felt more disruptive than lively. We have to get drinking water from a cooler at the end of the hall, it’s a bit tacky for a hotel like this. While we managed well, it would be better to have extra water provisions at the room itself or easy access to stores within the hotel. Overall Rating: 3.5 Stars The room's spaciousness and the hotel’s warm welcome are commendable, but it's hard to overlook the lack of coziness and thoughtful design. The overall hotel experience also lands at 3.5 stars, with a nod to its efficient processes yet a caution about its location and layout — some of which isn't entirely the hotel’s fault, but still impacts the stay.

Stayed at the hotel for a short visit. Hotel is clean and staff are friendly. But free breakfast food is limited and not impressive at all! You need to buy a set menu for a better breakfas option. I originally booked another hotel with free breakfast but then changed to this one as it is pricier and hotel online photos look great. I was disappointed. I have been to many hotels of similar price providing better and wide selection of breakfast food. Needs improvement in that regard. I guess they want people to pay extra for better selections! Will try another hotel if ever I visit Zamboanga again.
