“From the summit of Kinabalu, we harvest blessings”

Kadazandusun — Kadazandusun Pride

The enduring spirit of Kadazandusun

🏔

Mount Kinabalu

At 4,095 metres, Kinabalu is Borneo's highest peak and sacred resting place of ancestors. The Kadazandusun believe spirits dwell at its summit.

🌾

Kaamatan Harvest Festival

The Kaamatan festival celebrates the rice harvest with traditional rituals, beauty pageants (Unduk Ngadau), and the bobohizan priestesses' blessing ceremonies.

🍶

Tapai Rice Wine

Tapai is fermented rice wine brewed in bamboo or jars. Central to every celebration, its preparation is an art passed from mother to daughter.

⚔️

Headhunter Heritage

The Kadazandusun were once feared headhunters. Today this warrior legacy is honoured through dance, regalia, and stories -- swords displayed with cultural pride.

🎶

Sompoton Music

The sompoton is a mouth organ made from gourd and bamboo pipes. Its ethereal harmonics have echoed through Borneo's highlands for centuries.

🌲

Rainforest Guardians

Kadazandusun adat (customary law) protects sacred forests. Their tagal system of river conservation is now a model for sustainable fisheries worldwide.
