Perfectly situated, luxurious stay
We loved our time at this very special hotel.
After much research and map studying, we chose it for its proximity to all the major landmarks any first-time visitor to London will want to see.
Room was clean and comfortable, staff are professional, and overall ambience is lovely. This really set the tone of our stay. Lobby is fragrant with quality scented candles, and there’s a lovely sitting room and bar. Thoughtful touches like guest umbrellas at the entrance made for more pleasant exploring.
Breakfast is a buffet with plenty of choice for all tastes and the produce is good quality. You’ll find all the makings for a full English, as well as fresh breads, cereals, yoghurts, cold meats, cheeses and salads. The breakfast room is carpeted and has comfortable chairs, so it was a pleasant space for mapping out our itinerary over a few tea or coffee refills.
The building exterior is gobsmacking, especially when viewed from the Thames; it’s like a castle. Very grand and impressive. If you enjoy historical buildings or you’re seeking a traditional old London feel, then this hotel is for you.
Inside, you’ll find splendid period details like marble walls and brass finishes, with common areas retaining old-world charm.
The rooms are modern with new comforts, like under-floor heating, large TV, and mood lighting controls. We opted for the standard double room and it was slightly on the small sode if you each have a suitcase plus carry-on bags, as there are no distinct spots/surfaces intended for luggage but we made do. We found the bed to be very comfortable and spending time in the room was cosy thanks to terry cotton dressing gowns, a coffee pod machine, and proper china teacups and saucers. Lovely.
Lovation is fantastic. Our first morning was so easy – we walked only a few metres from the hotel doors to be right on the Thames, right across from the London Eye. A short stroll further and before we knew it, we were already at Big Ben and Westminster Abbey.
The closest tube station is Charing Cross and it’s close to so many things – we walked almost everywhere.
We found this to be the perfect jumping off point for first-time London visitors and recommend it highly for travellers who want easy access to all the essential sights, but without the crowds or tourist traps.
Comfortable, classy and excellent value. We’ll stay again!
Perfect location - aging in places, but good at the right price.
Hotel is in a good location, central but very quiet. There were a few issues with the building. I'd a top floor room and there was obviously a leak at some point from the slopped wall/roof with the paint bubbling and peeling in the corner. The carpets are aging, with a large stain in the separate sitting room of my deluxe king room.
The corridor smelt damp/fusty on my floor. There was a large container in one of the corridors to collect dripping water, explaining the smell. Fine once away from there, but it may have been unpleasant if you were staying in a nearby room.
Otherwise the room was good. Spacious, clean, well maintained bathroom with no hint of mildew anywhere.
Breakfast was disappointing. The orange juice was disgusting, undrinkable. The apple juice was watery. In a hotel of this standard I really expected better. There was no dried fruit to go with the available muesli/granola/ yogurt. The hot food buffet was good. The breakfast is passable and definitely edible, but not something I would look forward to.
For the price I paid I was happy, not dissimilar to much less spacious, lower quality hotels for the night I stayed. If I had paid the premium price this hotel frequently charges I would not have been happy. But at the right prices it was good.
Beautiful hotel, lovely staff, perfect for what I needed.
The property is beautiful and has its own history which I was very interested in. Convenient location and it felt safe as a single female traveler. Loved waking up to sunshine over the London Eye too! I could only stay one night and didn’t get to explore the hotel amenities to really experience everything.
