Nga malet te deti, Shqipëria shkëlqen
Albania's name in Albanian — Shqipëria — means 'Land of Eagles.' The double-headed eagle flag, adopted from Skanderbeg's seal in the 15th century, symbolizes sovereignty and vigilance. Eagles nest in Albania's mountains, a living symbol of this ancient and proud nation.
Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg (1405–1468) united Albanian tribes against the Ottoman Empire for 25 years. Called 'Athleta Christi' by the Pope, he defended Christian Europe. His resistance created Albanian national identity. Krujë's castle and museum honor this eternal hero.
Butrint has been inhabited since 50,000 BC — Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Venetian, and Ottoman layers. UNESCO-listed since 1992. The Roman theater, baptistery mosaics, and Venetian tower span 2,500 years. One of the Mediterranean's most complete archaeological sites.
The Albanian Riviera — from Vlorë to Sarandë — rivals Greece and Croatia at a fraction of the cost. Ksamil, Dhërmi, and Himara offer pristine beaches with turquoise Ionian waters. Travel magazines call it 'Europe's last unspoiled coastline.' Tourism grew 30%+ annually since 2019.
Berat, the 'City of a Thousand Windows,' has white Ottoman houses climbing steep hills. UNESCO-listed since 2008 alongside Gjirokastër, these cities preserve 2,400 years of continuous habitation. Berat's Onufri Museum houses priceless Byzantine icons.
Albanian hospitality (mikpritja) is sacred — codified in the Kanun: 'The house belongs to God and the guest.' Turkish coffee rituals, byrek sharing, and raki toasts welcome all visitors. Albania has more cafés per capita than any European nation. Besa (word of honor) is unbreakable.
