Fiji 7s — Rugby Sevens Champions

Fiji won Olympic gold in rugby sevens at Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 — the nation's first-ever Olympic medals. Rugby is Fiji's national obsession, producing more per-capita professional players than any nation. The Flying Fijians' style of offloading and broken-field running revolutionized the sport. A public holiday was declared after Rio gold.

Yaqona (Kava) — Sacred Ceremony

The kava ceremony is the heartbeat of Fijian culture. Yaqona (kava root) is pounded, mixed with water, and served in a bilo (coconut shell) following strict protocol. Every important occasion — welcoming guests, sealing agreements, mourning — centers on the tanoa (kava bowl). This 3,000-year tradition creates bonds of trust that hold Fijian society together.

333 Islands of Paradise

Fiji comprises 333 islands (110 inhabited) spanning 1.3 million km² of the South Pacific. From the coral reefs of the Mamanucas to the volcanic peaks of Taveuni (the "Garden Island"), Fiji's biodiversity is extraordinary. The Great Astrolabe Reef is the world's 4th largest barrier reef. Fiji is literally paradise — the first place on Earth to see each new day.

🌊

Drua — Double-Hulled Mastery

The Fijian drua was the largest and fastest ocean-going vessel in the Pacific. Up to 30m long, these double-hulled canoes could carry 200 warriors and outrun European ships. Built without metal tools, the drua represented the pinnacle of Polynesian/Melanesian naval architecture. Modern Fiji Drua rugby team is named in tribute to this seafaring legacy.

🎨

Masi (Tapa Cloth) Art

Masi, made from beaten bark of the paper mulberry tree, is Fiji's most distinctive art form. Stenciled with geometric patterns using natural dyes, masi is presented at weddings, funerals, and chiefly installations. Each pattern tells a story — waves, ferns, turtles. UNESCO recognizes Fijian masi as intangible cultural heritage. No Fijian ceremony is complete without it.

🌍

Climate Champion — Pacific Voice

Fiji was the first Pacific Island nation to chair COP23 (2017), becoming the global voice for climate-threatened nations. With sea levels rising, Fiji leads the fight for small island states. Former PM Bainimarama's climate diplomacy put the Pacific on the world stage. Fiji proved that the smallest nations can have the loudest voices on humanity's greatest challenge.

Tourism Connection — Bula meets Annyeong

Korean tourists increasingly discover Fiji as a honeymoon and resort destination. Direct charter flights have connected Seoul to Nadi. Korean dramas filmed in tropical locations inspire travel to Pacific islands. Both cultures share deep respect for elders, communal meals, and hospitality traditions. The Korean "jeong" resonates with the Fijian "bula" spirit.
